Alternating cycles when killing is OK

During the second cycle, we seem to re-evaluate our position and if a child is killed from week 25 of pregnancy through age 17 years, we're outraged.

The third cycle brings us back to legal acceptance and at age 18 we're willing to sacrifice our children in war, even an unjustified war, as long as his or her death helps stimulate our economy and those of us who sent them to war don't have to face the possibility of those dreaded furloughs.

The fourth cycle is much like cycle two: If a person is killed during the years 25 through 64, we're again outraged.

The fifth and last cycle is when a person reaches age 65. There are those who love Grandma and Granddad but believe they've become a burden on our economy with higher health care costs and Social Security benefits. They now want to consider euthanasia as an option since, in their world, abortion and euthanasia are nothing more than a means to terminate an unwanted expense.

This attitude and that of selective outrage is concerning to those of us over 65 since our generation obviously failed to teach that there are more important things than a strong economy.
