— A man was shot and wounded by police officers Monday, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reports.

Bruce Puente, 22, was shot in the early hours Monday in the 500 block of E Elm, OSBI reports.

A police officer was flagged down by a person who said a man had fired a gunshot in the area.

The officer found Puente standing at the southeast corner of Elm and Hightower. Puente pulled a gun from his waistband, the officer reported.

The officer, and a backup officer who arrived to help, both opened fire.

Puente was struck at least one time and flown to an Oklahoma City hospital for treatment, OSBI reports. His condition was not released. OSBI did not release the names of the Altus officers.

Altus police requested the OSBI assistance in the case. Once a report is complete, the district attorney will determine if the shooting was justified, OSBI reports.
