FROM STAFF REPORTS Published: March 26, 2013

The Ambassadors' Concert Choir will perform “Too Hot To Handel!” at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John Baptist Church, 5700 N Kelley.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from choir members or at the door. The choir is under the artistic direction of Sandra D. Thompson.

Classical composer George F. Handel comes into the 21st century with this modern, jazzy version of his masterpiece, “The Messiah.” The original concept by Marin Alsop, music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, with arrangements by Bob Christianson and Gary Anderson, debuted in 1993 to an overwhelming response from audiences and critics alike.

Instrumentation will include the 80-plus voices of The Ambassadors' Concert Choir, accompanied by orchestra and a jazz rhythm section and featuring soprano, mezzo-soprano and tenor soloists.

Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as “ingeniously reimagined,” the arrangement has been dazzling sold-out audiences across the country since its premiere. For more details, visit or call 235-0415.
