The American Cancer Society has honored The Oklahoman columnist Jenni Carlson for her story on an Edmond man's battle against cancer.

Carlson's story “His cancer answer: Play hard, have fun,” received the American Cancer Society High Plains Media Award in the newspapers big market daily feature category. The story chronicles how Matt Allen, a volunteer assistant coach for the McGuinness high school softball team, has embraced life and his struggle against brain cancer using a “Team Allen” approach.
