'American Idol' hopefuls head to the Chesapeake Energy Arena
“American Idol”'s highly anticipated Oklahoma City auditions are on Friday, and thousands of hopefuls are expected to fill the Chesapeake Energy Arena, waiting for their shot at the big time.
It's the TV talent show's first Oklahoma City audition, despite the fact that one of the show's most successful winners, Carrie Underwood, is an Oklahoma native.
“I think we're going to find people that wouldn't normally go to ‘American Idol' otherwise,” said supervising producer Patrick Lynn.
There's no way to predict the level of talent the producers will find in Oklahoma City, Lynn said, but he hopes to see “friends of Carrie Underwood.”
If you didn't make it to preregistration on Wednesday and Thursday, there is still time to register. Lynn said the team will accept late registrations, but time will dictate whether late registrants get to audition.
Lynn explained how Friday's audition process will go. Those who registered on Wednesday and Thursday were given wristbands, seat tickets for themselves and one guest, and told to return to the arena at 5 a.m. Friday to form a line.
Your guest must have been with you at registration, according to the rules posted at www.americanidol.com.
Lynn said “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest will show up for some shots with the crowd. About 8 a.m., auditioners and their guests will be allowed into the arena. Members of the press will not be allowed into the arena.
