Announcer planning to make move from Seattle
Pinto expects to call games for Oklahoma City team

A year after becoming the Seattle SuperSonics radio voice, Matt Pinto is on the move again. Pinto, who has been an NBA broadcaster for 19 seasons, said Thursday that he plans to join the team in Oklahoma City.

TV play-by-play announcer Kevin Calabro, who had been with the Sonics for 21 seasons, will not be making the move, team spokesman Tom Savage said.

A Boston native, Pinto, 46, made his NBA debut with the Charlotte Hornets, broadcasting the team's games for eight seasons, beginning in their second season. He expects the reception the Sonics will receive in Oklahoma City will be similar to that stint.

"The Charlotte Coliseum, which seated 24,000, was filled every night,” he said. "The electricity in the building was really incredible.”

Pinto then made a stop in Dallas, broadcasting Mavericks games for eight seasons — four on radio and then four on TV. He spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers before joining the Sonics last season.

Pinto called the Sonics' sudden move to Oklahoma City "a bit surreal,” considering the franchise's long history in Seattle.
