In case you missed it, here’s the week’s news in the metro area:
Sports. The Thunder signs Steven Hill, a 7-foot defensive guy from Arkansas. Arkansas fans and lumberjacks rejoice. Government, Part 1. Voters laugh at the mayor and city council’s request for a pay raise. Maybe next time ask for something less than double your salary. Government, Part 2. Crews worked to repair a problem with an Interstate 40 bridge in western Oklahoma City. In equally shocking news, the sky is blue. Government, Part 3. A former employee of Oklahoma County Commissioner Brent Rinehart settles a wrongful termination lawsuit. Terms of the deal were secret, like most of Rinehart’s dealings. Crime. An attorney has been charged with a felony of spitting on a Warr Acres police officer during his alcohol-related arrest. That’s like being charged for kicking someone in the shin and taking all his toys and going home. Animals. Lion cubs at the Oklahoma City Zoo turn a year old. Cuteness prevails. Philanthropy. Students at Southwest Covenant School volunteered Friday to improve a baseball field in Yukon for disabled children. Niceness prevails. Weather. Bizarrely warm weather continues. For once, we can enjoy Oklahoma’s random weather pattern. For next week, there will be an ice storm Monday, a dust bowl Tuesday and tornadoes Wednesday through Friday. Business.
