NEW YORK (AP) — Comments on the Buffalo Bills by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):

Chris Berman (ESPN, 14) — Most excitement in Western New York in offseason in years.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 17) — Hate to call Week 1 game pivotal, but knocking off Jets would be sign Bills are second best in AFC East.

Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 21) — Mario Williams signing brings an optimism that hasn't been seen in Buffalo for a while.

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 12) — Only concern is all the playoff talk coming out of Western NY and Bills locker room.

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 21) — Spent fortune on free agent defensive end Mario Williams, but it's handsomely paid quarterback that makes us reluctant to anoint them as playoff contenders. Sorry about that, Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 21) — Need to shave down points allowed. Gave up AFC-high 434 points a year ago.

Clark Judge (, 18) — Bills made all right offseason moves, but still play second to Pats in division.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 23) — Made some dramatic strides on offense in 2011. This year, it's the defense's turn to rise.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/, 20) — I was impressed with defense during my camp visit, especially front four. As long as Fred Jackson is healthy offense will move ball. More attempts in deep passing game will help loosen things up. Wild card is not out of realm of possibility.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 23) — Hope springs eternal after offseason led by signing of Mario Williams. Key to success is play of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Is he guy who cashed in after strong first half of 2011 or guy who struggled in second half?

Alex Marvez (, 17) — Bills not sharp on offense during preseason. However, revamped defensive line looks like real deal.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 27) — Remains to be seen if Mario Williams can be Reggie White II. Bills need to pick it up on offense to give Williams pass rush chances.
