NEW YORK (AP) — Comments on the Minnesota Vikings by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
MINNESOTA VIKINGS (28)
Chris Berman (ESPN, 30) — Thank goodness Adrian Peterson appears to be a fast healer.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 27) — Even if Adrian Peterson returns healthy and productive, they are way behind in NFC North.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 27) — Adrian Peterson still one of best backs in league if healthy.
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 30) — Really like Leslie Frazier but he doesn't have much to work with.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 29) — Leslie Frazier feels good about upcoming season, especially with Adrian Peterson on mend from knee injury. Wish we could say same. Just not sold on Christian Ponder as answer at quarterback.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 25) — Salty defense will make Vikings interesting to watch. OLB Chad Greenway is one of league's best-kept secrets.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 31) — I don't know how these guys survive in NFC North.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 28) — Lost eight games by six points or less last season; Vikes will win share of close ones if Adrian Peterson returns to greatness.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 28) — Early in season, offense may look more like 49ers — two running backs, two tight ends — as they try and survive. Adrian Peterson can't be work horse he typically is and Jerome Simpson is out with a suspension.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 31) — Second-worst record in league last year and your best player RB Adrian Peterson coming off major knee injury.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 30) — Even if running back Adrian Peterson isn't 100 percent for opener against Jacksonville, replacement Tony Gerhart enjoyed best preseason of three-year NFL career. Bigger concern is back seven of Minnesota's defense outside of stud linebacker Chad Greenway.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 29) — Christian Ponder needs to have Adrian Peterson healthy and running hard.
