A person familiar with the situation says Virginia Tech assistant Jeff Grimes has agreed to coach LSU's offensive line.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because LSU has not announced the hiring.

Virginia Tech running backs coach Shane Beamer has posted a congratulatory message about Grimes' move to LSU on Twitter.

Grimes has spent one season as offensive line coach at Virginia Tech. He'll take a similar position with LSU, which had a vacancy after Greg Studrawa left last week.

Grimes also has experience recruiting in the Southeastern Conference, having coached the offensive line at Auburn from 2009-12.

A former offensive tackle at UTEP, Grimes has spent two decades in coaching, including at Boise State, Arizona State, BYU and Colorado.
