CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Free agent forward Josh McRoberts has agreed to a two-year, $5.5 million deal to remain with the Charlotte Bobcats, said a person familiar with the situation.
The person spoke to The Associated Press Friday on condition of anonymity because the deal has not yet been made official. Free agent signings cannot be announced until July 10, according to NBA rules.
The person said the second year of the deal includes a player option.
McRoberts outperformed expectations last season after being acquired from the Orlando Magic in exchange for Hakim Warrick in February just hours before the trade deadline.
McRoberts wound up starting 19 games and averaged 9.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in 26 total contests for Charlotte. He also shot a career-best 50.5 percent from the field.
The 6-foot-10, 240-pound McRoberts gives the Bobcats added depth in the front court behind expected starters Al Jefferson and rookie Cody Zeller.
