Appeal of admitted Oklahoma killer is denied
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has rejected the appeal of an admitted killer who asked to withdraw his guilty plea.
Thursday's ruling upholds the plea and life in prison without parole sentence of 37-year-old Michael Wayne Wood Sr.
Wood pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in 2010 and admitted beating Donavan Nimmo to death and dumping Nimmo's body from a bridge in Blaine County in January 2005. Nimmo has not been seen since and his body has never been found.
Jennifer Durbin was also sentenced to life without parole after pleading guilty in 2010 to first-degree murder in the case.
The appeals court rejected Wood's claims that included ineffective legal counsel and whether the trial court established that he was competent to enter the plea.
