EDMOND — The last of three tree plantings for Arbor Week will take place on Saturday at the Service Blake Soccer Complex.
Earlier tree plantings were held at Anderson Park and Westborough Park.
Members of Cub Scout Pack 91 planted 26 trees at Westborough Park as part of the weeklong Arbor Day celebration.
Saturday, the tree planting will take place at 10 a.m. at the soccer fields, 1502 W Danforth Road. Shovels, bottled water and snacks will be provided. Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves and sun protection.
“Since Arbor Day is the tree planter's holiday, the city of Edmond will celebrate it by planting trees,” said Leigh Martin, the city's urban forestry assistant.
Arbor Week started off with winners of the Arbor Day Art Show being named. The theme was “Trees in Our Town.”
First- through fifth-place posters from each school will be showcased in the Arbor Day Art Show through April at the Edmond Historical Museum, 431 S Blvd.
“Edmond residents are encouraged to come and view the creative interpretations of Edmond's trees by the youth of the community,” Martin said.
