The Edmond Roman Catholic faith community is particularly affected by the recent pastoral appointments made by Archbishop Paul Coakley.

Probably the most significant appointment in terms of the archdiocese leadership involves the Rev. William Novak, who was named vicar general effective April 13. Novak, pastor of St. John Nepomuk in Yukon, replaced Monsignor Edward Weisenburger, who will become the new bishop of Salina, Kan., on Tuesday.

However, many of the other appointments, effective June 13, involve Edmond parishes.

The Rev. John Metzinger, longtime pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond, has been appointed pastor of Our Lady's Cathedral, where Weisenburger has been clergy leader. The Rev. Ray Ackerman, pastor of St. Monica Catholic Church in west Edmond, has been appointed pastor of St. John the Baptist across town. The Rev. Stephen Hamilton, pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Kingfisher, has been appointed pastor of St. Monica, and his associate pastor will be the Rev. Cory Stanley, who was ordained into the priesthood last July. Hamilton will serve as the archdiocese's vocation director, a position last held by Novak at St. John Nepomuk.

Other appointments are: the Rev. Scott A. Boeckman, pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in Woodward, has been named vicar for priests. The Rev. William Lewis will become pastor of Holy Trinity in Okarche and Immaculate Heart of Mary in Calumet. The Rev. Francis Nguyen will take Hamilton's place as senior pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul in Kingfisher and St. Rose of Lima in Watonga. The Rev. Lourdu Ponnapati will become pastor of St. Matthew in Elk City and Queen of All Saints in Sayre. The Rev. Pudota Stoutus Thomas will be an associated pastor at Sacred Heart in south Oklahoma City.
