Ardmore police warn of phone scam that impersonates officers

Police are investigating phone calls to residents that were made by someone impersonating Ardmore police officers.

ARDMORE — Police are investigating reports of someone calling residents and impersonating a police officer.

Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt said two residents contacted the Ardmore Police Department after they received a call Wednesday night. Both calls were made by someone pretending to be a police officer, he said.

The caller used a common phone application that disguises the caller ID and shows another number. Hunnicutt said the number shown was the nonemergency number (580) 223-1212.

One of the callers claimed there was a warrant issued for a resident who has no criminal record. The other resident was asked to come in for a job interview for a position the person had not applied for, police said.

Hunnicutt said people who receive questionable phone calls from an Ardmore police officer should ask for the caller's name and politely terminate the call. Then they can call the dispatch center at (580) 223-1212 and ask to be connected to the name given.
