Jake Ratcliffe, 14, won gold in .410 bore, the smallest gauge of shotgun, by hitting 99 of 100 targets. Ratcliffe was competing against shooters 14 and younger from across the country.

Ratcliffe also won bronze in the high overall average, which is the combined score for .410 bore, 12 gauge, 20 gauge and 28 gauge.

Ratcliffe connected on 392 of 400 targets overall. The champion hit 394 of 400.

The world championships were open to sub-junior, junior, high school age and collegiate shooters and sanctioned by the National Skeet Shooting Association.

Jake picked up a shotgun for the first time 2 ½-years ago and started in the 4-H shooting program in Carter County, said his father, Nathan Ratcliffe.

Last year, Jake won the .28 gauge state title as a 13-year-old, the youngest shooter ever to do so, his father said.
