The Arena Football League will not make any official inquiry into gambling by Paul Ross, league Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz said.
“We don't have a specific prohibition against somebody in their personal life engaging in wagering outside of our business,” Kurz said. “Some might think that's not enough but I think it's difficult to legislate people's activity outside of your business.”
The commissioner said the league does prohibit owners from gambling on Arena Football League games. Ross, a co-owner of the Tulsa Talons, told The Oklahoman he did not bet on Arena Football League games.
Ross' group still is a minority owner in the San Antonio Talons, the commissioner said. Ross said he does not have any ownership interest.
Ross has admitted to the FBI that he was a gambler involved with Teddy Mitchell of Oklahoma City.
Last week, another admitted gambler, Ross Parmley, was fired from his position as University of Tulsa athletic director. Parmley admitted to the FBI that he bet on college and NFL games, which is a violation of NCAA rules.
