LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas lawmakers are wrapping up the first week of this year's legislative session as questions about the future of the state's Medicaid program loom.

The Arkansas House and Senate faced a light agenda Thursday as they prepared to recess for a four-day weekend. The Legislature convened for the start of this year's session on Monday.

Legislative leaders say they hope in the next couple weeks to discuss a projected shortfall in Medicaid's budget and cuts state officials have proposed to make up for the deficit. They're also weighing a proposal to expand the state's Medicaid eligibility under the federal health care law.

The House and Senate planned to take off Friday and reconvene Tuesday, after also taking off Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
