Arkansas edges Mississippi 2-1 in SEC tournament

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Arkansas jumped out to an early lead and then used a shutdown performance by its pitching staff to beat Mississippi 2-1 on Wednesday in the Southeastern Conference tournament.

The Razorbacks (37-21) advance to face LSU in the winner's bracket while Ole Miss (40-17) falls to the loser's bracket and will face Vanderbilt. Both games will be Thursday.

Chris Oliver (8-4) got the win for Arkansas, giving up one unearned run over 6 1/3 innings. Michael Gunn and Jacob Stone combined to throw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Stone earned his second save.

Chris Ellis (9-1) took his first loss of the season for the Rebels. He gave up two earned runs over 6 1/3 innings.

Clark Eagan and Andrew Benintendi each had two hits for the Razorbacks.
