“First, it's a privilege to be working with an industry legend,” Guggenheim told Comic Book Resources about Grell. “But more importantly, Mike's grounded take on Green Arrow in the seminal ‘Longbow Hunters' series was a touchstone for us as we were developing the television series.”

In September, DC Comics released a new edition of the miniseries “Green Arrow: Longbow Hunters” by Grell. The three-issue prestige format miniseries was originally released in 1987 and set a new tone for the Green Arrow character; from Guggenheim's remarks, that looks to have inspired the tone of the new TV series.

In “Arrow,” billionaire playboy Oliver Queen is shipwrecked on an island, where he must learn archery and survival skills. Five years after his disappearance, he returns to Starling City, seeking the answers to a mystery left him by his dying father. The show airs at 7 p.m. Wednesdays on the CW.
