Green Arrow, the bow-wielding vigilante first introduced in 1941, will get a new beginning Wednesday night when “Arrow” debuts on the CW.

The show stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, who in the comics becomes Green Arrow.

DC Entertainment wants to celebrate the debut of the series with comic-book fans, deeming Wednesday “Arrow Day,” with the release of a free “Arrow” No. 1 special edition available free at comic-book stores.

The “Arrow” No. 1 special edition will offer a look at the past and present of hotshot billionaire Oliver Queen, as well as a six-page preview of “Green Arrow” No. 0, featuring the character who inspired the show.

“‘Arrow' is one of the most highly-anticipated new shows premiering this fall and when you combine that with enthusiasm from comic book fans who now get to see one of their favorite super heroes on TV — there's a lot of excitement comic book retailers can tap into,” stated DC Entertainment Vice President of Marketing John Cunningham in a news release. “We're thrilled to bring ‘Arrow Day' to fans across the country.”

DC Entertainment is also making an “Arrow” digital comic available on Wednesday, written by show Executive Producers Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg. Mike Grell, the writer-artist perhaps most associated with Green Arrow, will draw the first two covers, and according to Comic Book Resources, is the artist of the first digital issue. The weekly digital series will be collected in print starting on Nov. 28.
