Profiles of Life: Glynda Kay Parsons Stanfield
Glynda Kay Parsons Stanfield had recently taken up needlepoint.
It was a difficult task considering health problems meant her stiff fingers wouldn't always cooperate as she tried to loop the needles and yarn.
It was all a part of the strong determination of the 43-year-old Oklahoma City woman.
Stanfield died after she took cover in a bathroom inside the home she shared with her husband, Delbert. He was returning from work and saw the funnel plow through his house. She had taken her beloved cat, Kitters, and dog, Cleo, into the bathroom with her. Kitters died along with her master.
Delbert Stanfield said Cleo now "cries at night. Just like everybody else. She misses her. I do too."
The Stanfields were married for 17 years.
Glynda Stanfield was in the Air Force for two years before health problems forced her to leave active status. She was in the Air Force Reserve for 16 years, working on the computer system as a technical sergeant.
"She loved her country. I don't know what I'll do without her. She was a good person. She loved everybody," said her mother, Syble Parsons of Sallisaw.
Stanfield was buried in Sallisaw. Graduates of the 1972 high school class stood in her honor. She also is survived by her brother, Jerry Parsons of Cookson.
Delbert Stanfield said his wife would have been one of the first on the scene to help during a disaster such as a tornado.
"She never had a cross bone in her body. She helped everybody. She just loved animals," he said.
