"He was just an outgoing, typical Italian with a love of life,"
Smith said. "He really loved getting out on the farm. He'd never
done that in his life - he'd grown up in San Francisco on the
cement. He liked driving the tractor, working with the hay and
cattle."
Battaglia, 37, a city driver for American Freightways, died
during Monday's tornado that destroyed the company's building at
8100 S Bryant.
"He was very, very outgoing, he loved people, loved to talk,"
his wife, Melissa, said.
Melissa, an East Central University graduate, was an operations
officer at a San Francisco bank when she met Anthony Battaglia.
They were married in 1991 and have a son, Antonio Mac, 2, and a
baby girl on the way.
"He didn't want to be away from his family," Smith said. "That's
why he wanted to work the city route.
"He dreamed of having his own rig," his wife said.
