EL RENO - Concerned about a possible resurgence of gangs, Police Chief Fred Savage has planned two town hall meetings to show the U.S. Department of Justice's program "Preventing Gangs in our Communities."

The program and meeting will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in room 125 of Redlands Community College's multimedia building, and again during the same hours June 6.

Savage said gang-related graffiti has been seen recently in the city. He said other gang crimes haven't been reported.

"The only thing right now is the graffiti," Savage said. "I thought it would be a good time to have a meeting before we have a problem."

Detectives have identified markings affiliated with two separate gangs in El Reno, he said.

The city had some gang problems in the late 1980s through the mid-1990s, but the problems seemed to disappear before a resurgence in the last few months, Savage said.

Savage said parents should monitor their children's activities.

"It's important as a community that we come together to prevent it from getting a foothold in our community," he said.
