Two tribes are blaming the Bureau of Indian Affairs for an attack last week that destroyed a ceremonial arbor near Concho, and an Arapaho elected official said he took part in the violence.

WHAT'S AT STAKE: Who has the right to perform the Arapaho Sun Dance?

BACKGROUND: At least 20 people stormed an encampment on Cheyenne-Arapaho tribal land Thursday, then used axes, chain saws and fire to destroy an arbor being erected for a sacred Sun Dance. They were gone when bureau police officers arrived.

WHAT'S NEXT: A hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Cheyenne-Arapaho tribal court in Concho to determine whether ceremony organizers violated court orders.
