Old Germany is one of few major businesses along SE 29th street near Choctaw Road, but be patient, and keep driving. The menu is filled with traditional German dishes, such as schnitzel, sausage and a variety of German-style potatoes.
Its specialty is the schnitzel with mushrooms in cream sauce: a boneless pork loin or skinless chicken breast, seasoned, grilled or breaded and pan-fried then smothered with mushrooms in cream sauce. It's the favorite of both manager Mike Turek and his sister, Jutta Wolff, Old Germany's chef.
But there also is the smoked bratwurst on a pick-two sausage plate with red cabbage.
Desserts are not German. Alas — there wasn't any German chocolate cake! However, there are tortes, carrot cake, cheesecake and other sweets from La Baguette.
