TAHLEQUAH — In 2000, John Garrison left the world of chain restaurants and opened Katfish Kitchen in Tahlequah. His background has served him well, and this unassuming restaurant serves up quantity and quality.

The walls are decorated with fish nets typical of seafood restaurants, and the atmosphere is complemented by friendly, efficient service.

Once customers are seated, drinks are delivered to the table, along with the Kitchen Set-up: pinto beans, freshly made cole slaw, hushpuppies and a relish plate. These are replenished as often as desired during the meal.

Katfish Kitchen offers its version of catfish hot and crispy, with a light coating, no heavy battered crust.

Other fish and seafood offerings include tilapia and clams, shrimp and scallops. A more unusual item on the menu is frog legs, which can be ordered as two pair or three pair.

If catfish isn’t really your entrée of choice, Katfish Kitchen also has steaks, pork loin and chicken items.

With appetizers and salads, burgers and sandwiches rounding out the menu, this eating establishment appeals to all diners.

John Garrison has dessert covered as well. Part of the Kitchen Set-up is warm strawberry dumplings. A scoop of vanilla ice cream is the perfect topping for these dumplings. For those who may not choose to have these, there is homemade fried pie with ice cream.
