Habaneros Mexican Restaurant — born from local demand

Chris Hobson did a little survey beforehand.

"We live right up the street and we planned to put something out here ...," he said of the restaurant site at Waterloo Road and Broadway.

"We asked about 1,000 people what they wanted to see out here and about 90 percent ... said Mexican food. My wife, Mandy, and I did that."

That was nearly four years ago and things are good now for the Hobsons and for their customers.

"The food is definitely is our best part," Hobson said. "The first year and a half was pretty rough, but Carlos, our head cook, is the reason why our food is so good.

"We sell many tecates out here; I believe the most in Edmond. We get a good mixed of local people in the area and some from Oak Tree golf course."

He said local celebrities, " ... all sorts of people, including families," are frequent diners at Habaneros.

Hobson says the most popular item on the menu is the fajita beef.

"Anything that's it in just tastes better," he says. "The Bisteak Ranchero and the Chile Relleno are also very popular choices."

Daily specials are offered Monday through Thursday. Hobson says Habaneros has great margaritas as well.

But it isn't just the food and drinks that make Habaneros specials, Hobson says.

"The customers are easily the best part about working here," he says. "We get many regulars in here.

"The ... atmosphere is very laidback, and we have a lot of really good, loyal customers. The staff makes the place a fun place to work."
