Stoops should've just let Thompson throw
Bob Stoops reached into his bag of tricks late in the first half — or did he? Stoops ordered a fake field goal on 4th-and-6 from the Nebraska 30-yard line with 50 seconds left in the second quarter.

Trouble was, no one in Arrowhead Stadium should have been expecting anything but a fake. Garrett Hartley was going to try a 47-yard field goal on a sub-freezing night? Kicking a football in 20-something degree weather is like kicking a rock.

A rolling snap from center Derek Shaw foiled the fake, a pass from holder Hays McEachern, but it was going nowhere anyway.

Better for the Sooners to just let quarterback Paul Thompson throw on fourth down, maybe even deep to Malcolm Kelly, which never is a bad play.

Instead, D.J. Wolfe's interception in Nebraska territory was wasted, and OU lost a chance to grab momentum heading into intermission.
