WASHINGTON — Sen. Jim Inhofe introduced legislation on Wednesday that would crack down on illegal immigration and create an immigration enforcement office in Tulsa.

•The bill, similar to one he offered in the last Congress, would:
•Make unlawful presence in the United States a felony;
•Eliminate the practice of granting citizenship to babies born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants;
•Eliminate in-state tuition benefits for illegal aliens;
•Strengthen penalties against employers filing false tax returns;
•Establish an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Tulsa.
"Illegal immigrants continue to cross our country's borders, strain our economy and exploit our resources,” Inhofe, R-Tulsa, said.
"The gravity of this situation warrants that Americans of all political stripes come together to address this problem immediately," he said.
Congress is expected to take up comprehensive immigration reform this year, perhaps even this month if congressional leaders can reach agreement with the White House on outlines for legislation.
