Muskogee pair lead 2008 football prospects

Oklahoma's Class of 2007 might have seemed a little weak, but there's a surplus of Division I talent in the Sooner state this fall. Here are the Top 10 in-state prospects from the Class of 2008:

1. Jameel Owens, WR, Muskogee: Owens is tall (6-foot-4), big (210 pounds) and wicked fast (4.41-second 40-yard dash). No Division I coach will be able to ignore that combination.

2. Stacey McGee, DT, Muskogee: Defensive end Jonte Bumpus received all the press, but it was McGee who anchored the Muskogee defense in 2006

3. Harrison Jeffers, RB, Lawton Eisenhower: Jeffers is the most dynamic player in the state. He averaged 7.1 yards per carry as a sophomore and 10.7 as a junior. Jeffers has orally committed to Texas Tech.

4. Tony Gillespie, DT, Jenks: Gillespie is a little short for his position (6-foot-1), but his junior stat line (83 tackles, eight sacks, three fumble recoveries) proves size doesn't necessarily matter.

5. John Flanders, DB, Midwest City: Got to see Flanders play against Westmoore in 2006. The Jags don't pass much anyway, but I don't think a single ball got by Flanders when they did. And he rushed all over Westmoore on offense, too.

6. Chika Madu, DB, Norman North: Here's something scary: the second Madu brother is supposed to be even better than the first.

7. John Williams, OL, Tulsa Washington: Tailback Michael Harris' 2,000-yard, 32-touchdown senior season was no coincidence. Williams is a people-mover.

8. Kenny Session, RB, Tulsa East Central: Fellow reporter Brandon Chatmon says Session is the real deal, and I'm not going to doubt him. He said the same about Gerald McCoy long before USA Today Defensive Player of the Year honors came GK's way.

9. Kye Staley, WR/DB, Guthrie: Most two-way players are recruited in whichever position they perform the strongest. That won't be the case with Staley. He's a stud at both cornerback and wideout.

10. Nathan Stanley, QB, Sequoyah-Tahlequah: Stanley passed for 2,300 yards and 26 TDs in 2006, while throwing only seven interceptions. He has all the intangibles, but some coaches will wonder if his Class 2A competition was tough enough.
