Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel has signed five players as part of the 2007 recruiting class, but he might not be finished yet. Sophomore forward Ryan Wright, who has announced his intentions to transfer from UCLA, has visited Norman and plans to choose a destination possibly sometime this month. For now, here's how Capel's latest signing class grades out.
•Needs filled: C — OU needed depth in the paint and an immediate-impact point guard, but fell a little short on both. Capel signed only one true post player in Blake Griffin, and while Omar Leary is an adequate point guard who should help the team, expectations shouldn't be too high. This grade elevates to a B-minus if Wright comes on board. •Star power: A — Griffin and Chris Early had their share of highlights on ESPN, and Griffin is becoming well-known around the country for his performance in the McDonald's All-American slam dunk contest. •Staying power: A — With the exception of Leary, who has just two years of eligibility, Capel brought in plenty of guys who should be around for four years. •Overall: B-plus — Borderline ‘A' if Wright commits, though he would have to sit out next season.
