Custer County jury sentences killer to die
ARAPAHO —A Custer County jury handed down the death penalty Monday night for Richard Rojem Jr. , who was convicted more than two decades ago for the 1984 rape and murder of 7-year-old Layla Dawn Cummings of Elk City .
The child's bloodied and partly clothed body was found July 7, 1984, dumped in a dirt field outside Burns Flat.
