TULSA — Now Bob Stoops knows how his wife, Carol, feels when the Oklahoma football team is preparing for a bowl game in Florida or California or some other exotic location.

On a recent trip to Austria, the Stoopses experienced a role reversal — Carol was working, and Bob was relaxing.
"It's pretty nice when you go with your wife and she's all business,” Stoops said in a brief meeting with media members before the Sooner Caravan stop at Schusterman Center on OU's Tulsa campus.
"She has to go to meetings and she has to do a few things — not many, it's still a great trip — but I can sleep in, get a good workout, go read the paper in the lobby and have coffee. It's 11 o'clock, and I don't have to be anywhere.”
Stoops appeared rested from his travels, joking before the press conference that Wednesday would be the night he'd announce next season's starting quarterback.
That's the question Stoops will be asked at events like the Sooner Caravan or anytime he does an interview or when he gets spotted by a fan in the grocery store.
"We've won four Big 12 Championships in the last seven years with four different quarterbacks,” Stoops said. "So this isn't something that's different for us.”
Highlighting the Austria trip for Stoops was the fact that he wasn't once recognized by anyone outside of the Mary Kay Cosmetics group he and his wife traveled with.
"That part's pretty nice,” he said. "I haven't been to Europe very much, so I had a great time. We took a three-hour train ride to Budapest. Hung around there for an entire day. Incredible.
"Playing gin rummy on the way home with the windows down, some rain coming in.
"It was pretty sweet.”
Not everything about the trip to Europe was a breeze for the Sooner coach, however.
"It was hard keeping up with the basketball series,” he said.
