Mike Goodman brought a Tulsa-sized whipping down the Turner Turnpike to State Fair Speedway on Friday night.
The Tulsa-based sprint car driver, who also dabbles on the American Sprint Car Series, filled in for
Mike Peters and led nearly the entire super sprint feature, at times leading by half a track length.
Jamie Passmore and
Whit Gastineau had a final shot after a caution on lap 18 of the 20-circuit race, which bunched up the cars for a restart. It was to no avail. By the time the checkered flag dropped,
Goodman had pulled away from the field again.
Super sprint driver
Chris Burns went into the night leading the division standings, but he had to qualify for the A feature through the last-chance B feature. He had spun out, then black-flagged in his heat race.
Burns still managed a sixth-place finish in the A feature.
In the factory stock division,
David Rhodes won his first feature of the season, literally driving out of the jaws of
Kevin Becker and
Steve Clemmons.
Becker and
Clemmons had
Rhodes flanked on both sides the final two laps.
Becker eventually overtook
Rhodes for the lead but slid off the top of the track in turn four on the 15th and final lap.
Rhodes moved to third in the point standings.
Becker held on to his division lead.
Clemmons finished second in the feature and is fourth in the standings.
USA modified driver
Stanley Reed Jr. won his second feature of the season, passing
Steve Smith on the 16th lap.
Reed didn't get far.
Rick Goforth and other lapped traffic had
Reed boxed in.
Reed gave
Goforth's car a few bumps in the rear and finally made his way back into the open.
Reed has a 200-point lead in the standings over defending division champion
Alan Oliva. Smith, a former multi-time champion in the pro stock class, held on for second place in the race.
Smith did a get a win in the pro stocks, holding off
Tony Osborn and
Justin Guinn. Points leader Mark Brill finished fifth in the feature.
