The Oklahoma County court clerk's office has county land records from 1890 to present available online at county clerk.oklahomacounty.org. At the Oklahoma Genealogical Society meeting Monday night, Oklahoma County Court Clerk Carolynn Caudill and her staff demonstrated how to access and search for documents related to property interests, such as deeds, mortgages, liens and mineral rights.

On the main Web site, place the computer cursor on "register of deeds” and then click on "ROD search,” then click "yes” if you understand the statement that appears. A "log-in” screen will appear. In order to search and view the images, you must create an account. If you have forgotten your username and/or password, you can create another account.

Read the "Tips to Facilitate Your Searches” provided on the page before conducting a search, then click on the "grantor/grantee or subdivision” link. Additional instructions are provided at the bottom of the search box. When searching by name, enter last name then first name using punctuation symbols.

An example used was "Wayne, John.” Although John Wayne never resided in Oklahoma, he signed a "release of mortgage” for his daughter and son-in-law.

Type a person's name in the grantor box and click the "search now” button.

A list of results will be provided. To select a document, click on one of the boxes under the "selected” column, then click "next step.”

General information about the document on file — document type, filing date, book and page number — will be provided.

To view the document image, click on the icon next to the document number.

To print the document, click the "print” icon on the image view. The resulting copy will be centered on the page.

If you have a problem or see an error in the index, the staff encouraged researchers to notify customer service.
