So much for quarterbacks as team spokesmen this preseason.

Neither Oklahoma nor Oklahoma State are taking their quarterbacks to this year's Big 12 Media Days, which start in San Antonio on July 23. Head coaches and two to three players of the school's choosing attend and speak to local and national media.

Later this month, OSU coach Mike Gundy will take defensive lineman Marque Fountain, wide receiver Adarius Bowman and defensive back Martel Van Zant.

Van Zant, who is deaf, will be accompanied by his interpreter. All three OSU players who will attend are seniors.

OU coach Bob Stoops will bring a pair of junior Sooners, defensive back Reggie Smith and wide receiver Malcolm Kelly.

Cowboys starting quarterback Bobby Reid won't make the trip, and neither will any of OU's three potential quarterbacks, Sam Bradford, Joey Halzle or Keith Nichol.

And the Sooners and Cowboys aren't the only ones leaving the traditional team talkers behind. Missouri is not planning to take Chase Daniels, an early favorite to be the Big 12's quarterback of the year. Instead the Tigers are bringing their two tight ends and a defensive tackle.

At media days, each school does about three hours with the media. OU, Kansas, Baylor and Nebraska go on Monday; Missouri, Texas A&M, Iowa State and Texas Tech are on Tuesday; and OSU, Kansas State, Colorado and Texas hold court with the press on Wednesday.
