We asked readers what they thought of the NCAA's punishment for the OU football team. Here were some comments posted Wednesday on NewsOK.com:

•"I think they're beating a dead horse in this one. It's over, the players were kicked off before Big Brother (NCAA) stepped in and put its weight into the matter. Also, their harshness is because of what another sport did? That's unfair.”

— Jonathan Vestal, Yukon

•"I think Bob Stoops did what was right by removing the players off the team, and starting his season in quite a bind. And what about Reggie Bush and USC? Are they going to have to give up there wins like OU did? I think the NCAA needs to go spend some time with those refs from Oregon. OU deserves every win. They worked hard for it.”

— Melissa Rowan, Idabel

•"OU gets this penalty, yet BRAT (oops) Bomar moves on to play at another school. How is that right?”

— Deann Lewis, Crescent

•"Too bad OU doesn't police itself better. If they did these things wouldn't happen. You'd think after all these years and all these various scandals and NCAA infractions OU would have learned its lessons. Oh well, I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.”

— Stephen Rhymer, Elk City

•"While I do feel they should be punished for their actions, taking away their wins is way too much. The self-imposed punishment, as well as kicking the star quarterback off the team in a national championship contention year, is punishment enough.”

— Brad Tuter, Oklahoma City

•"Timing is everything. With the basketball program violations in recent memory the NCAA jumped on a chance to get tough.”

— John Dries, Oklahoma City
