Owens, originally from Miami, OK, still has family in the northeast Oklahoma which was hit by flooding earlier this month.

In an interview with Soonersports.com, Owens said he has talked to his family and will soon be helping to raise money for victims of the floor.

"I just ask people to keep those people in their prayers," said Owens, who won the Heisman in 1969 playing for the Oklahoma Sooners. "The thing about Oklahoma people is they're fighters.

"It's the same thing with people in my hometown. These people are going to fight hard and come back."
