For Elizabeth Edwards, "Tomorrow Begins Today” is more than just her husband's presidential campaign slogan.

It means another day she is alive, battling terminal cancer and taking Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards' message to another Oklahoma crowd.

Elizabeth Edwards spoke at a fundraiser to more than 300 Oklahomans on Thursday night about her personal experience with the health care system and her disease, and how "every single American” deserves to have insurance coverage.

Touting her husband's universal health care plan, she told the crowd her husband "believes in the dignity of each of us,” which he uses as the foundation of each of his policy positions.

Pre-existing conditions also would be covered under Edwards' health care plan.

"A health insurance policy that doesn't cover cancer does me no good,” she said.

Other issues

Outsourcing and job loss were other issues brought up during a question-and-answer period, and Elizabeth Edwards assured the crowd that her husband would be a president "who believes it is part of his job to protect your job.”

How much was raised?

A statement about how much money was raised at the event Thursday night was unavailable.

of Edmond

Ackerman said she is a longtime John Edwards supporter, but came Thursday to hear Elizabeth Edwards.

"I admire the courage she has going ahead (with the campaign) in the face of recurrent cancer,” Ackerman said.

Van Tobin of Oklahoma City

Tobin went to hear Elizabeth Edwards speak because of how much attention she and John Edwards have given to Oklahomans and their issues.

"Hillary Clinton made a stealth visit to Oklahoma,” he said, referring to a recent $1000-a-seat fundraiser the Democratic senator attended in the state.

"I can't afford a ticket to see Hillary Clinton, so I don't think I can afford to vote for her,”
