OU's Smith named Big 12's top defensive player

Oklahoma 's Reggie Smith is the Preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, the conference announced on Friday.

Smith, a junior from Edmond Santa Fe, is OU's top returning defensive back. Last season, he had 41 tackles, three interceptions and eight pass breakups. Smith was a preseason All-Big 12 selection at defensive back and punt returner. Last season, Smith returned 37 punts for 287 yards and a touchdown.
