Former University of Oklahoma quarterback Jamelle Holieway was arrested Saturday morning in Eufaula on a possession of marijuana complaint, a McInstosh County Sheriff’s deputy said.

He was free on a $500 bail shortly after being booked in the McIntosh County jail early Saturday, Deputy Tim Turner said.
The former quarterback, who helped lead the Sooners to the school’s sixth national title in the Orange Bowl on January 1, 1986, was a passenger in a black Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by his wife, when the car was pulled over about 2:30 a.m. near the Eufaula police department headquarters.
Turner and partner Shawn Wray, pulled the car over for failing to signal, Turner said.
“When I approached the vehicle, I could smell alcohol and marijuana coming from the vehicle,” Turner said.
Holieway’s wife was seated in the patrol car and given a warning. When the deputies returned to speak with the car’s passenger, both deputies observed the passenger drop a Levi Garret tobacco pouch from beside him.
He was asked to get out of the car, at which time the man identified himself to Turner and Wray as Oklahoma’s former quarterback by showing them “a picture of when he played at OU,” Turner said.
“He advised me that he was Jamelle Holieway and asked me if I knew who he was,” Turner said. “His attitude was not the best.”
Turner would not say what his response was, but said, “I still did my job.”
The two deputies opened the tobacco pouch and discovered the marijuana. An exact amount was not immediately available, but Turner said Holieway was arrested on a complaint of “simple possession,” which is a misdemeanor.
He is due back in court at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Turner said.
Turner said he thought the arrested was probably under the influence, but he was not arrested on any intoxication complaints.
Holieway and his wife were on their way home from McAlester and had planned to stop at a friend’s home in Eufaula, Turner said. He is known to be in that same area frequently, where Turner said Holieway has many friends and family.

Wow...another Texan so small he has to troll an Oklahoma news site posting sophomoric drivel in a vain attempt to somehow make himself feel big. What a truly small individual.
Jason didn't make it in the NFL because his knees were shot. Now skip away Misty.....skip away.
Wow..former Texas players like Earl Campbell go to bat for less fortunate older NFL players who the pension system ignored and typical of Oklahoma this guy travels with a picture of himself in his glory days to remind people of who he once was. Was this guy even good enough to play in the pros ? No mention of it is made in the article, I suppose like many players actually FROM Oklahoma ( Jason White) he wasn't actually pro material. If each state was limited to recruiting within its borders Oklahoma couldn't win a Division IV championship ( there is a Division IV isn't there ? )
I'm not sure why this is even something the Oklahoman would ask an opinion about. He's not a current player and I wouldn't want my personal affairs reported with the option for comment like this.
