Gary Wright won his third race of the American
Sprint Car Series "Speedweek” Friday night at State Fair Speedway while chasing his sixth Speedweek title.
The last stop of the Speedweek tour is tonight at
Lawton Speedway, before the ASCS
National Tour finishes up the season.
Wright leads the
National Tour and Speedweek point standings, with
Jason Johnson and Oklahoma City's
Wayne Johnson chasing. Both were right behind Wright on Friday, with Wayne finishing third and Jason second.
"It doesn't matter if we are racing in New York or Oklahoma, the top four drivers in the standings are going to be in the top four of the feature race at any track,” Wright said after the race. "The competition is unbelievable.”
Wright led most of the race, with Wayne trying to track the three-time defending ASCS champion down through lapped traffic. Wright held Wayne off before Jason eventually moved into second with a couple of laps remaining.
Summer rain has made for a rough track most of the summer, but a break in the weather gave speedway officials a chance to smooth out the surface this past week. There had been 18 cars flip over the previous three race nights; only one car turned over on Friday night.
In the factory stock division,
Dustin Buntin collected a feature win. Points leader
Kevin Becker finished seventh, his first finish outside the top five this season.
Chris Roach won the
USA modified feature race.
Stanley Reed Jr. kept his lead in the standings.
