TULSA — Prosecutors have charged a state prison inmate with first-degree murder in the death of a check-cashing company employee three years ago.

Anthony Paul McClanahan was charged Wednesday by Tulsa County authorities after DNA testing linked him to the June 5, 2004, stabbing death of Victoria Knight, prosecutors allege.

McClanahan, 37, also was charged with the robbery of Cash in a Flash, where Knight, 24, was an assistant manager.

A medical examiner determined that Knight died of multiple blunt and sharp force injuries.

An unknown male DNA profile was developed from blood evidence found at the scene. That DNA profile was entered into the Combined DNA Indexing System — or CODIS — database. A "hit” was obtained on a known DNA sample obtained from McClanahan, police said.

According to a police affidavit, perpetrators of stabbings often "cut themselves during the commission of the crime.”

McClanahan received a 15-year prison term in Creek County in 2005 for a robbery-related conviction, records indicate.

Other felony convictions for crimes include attempted robbery, burglary and arson, Department of Corrections records show
