Coming down the stretch of the season at State Fair Speedway, sprint car driver
Michelle Decker is once again proud of what she's achieved. Yet, she still wants more.
The
Don Strawn-sponsored driver from Guthrie is again running second in the championship sprint division, 230 points behind defending titlist
Chris Burns. Last season, the champ sprint points came down to the last night of racing. This year,
Decker will need a little luck to catch the Bethany driver.
"He pretty much has it wrapped up,”
Decker said. "We are by no means giving up, but Chris would have to some (did not finishes) for us to have a chance. But if I am going to finish second to someone, it might as well be Chris.”
Burns is vying to win consecutive championships in both the super and championship sprint divisions. Last year,
Burns became the first driver in the speedway's 52-year history to win the championship in two divisions in the same season.
Decker couldn't be behind a tougher or more consistent driver the last two seasons than
Burns.
"We are very proud of finishing high in the points,”
Decker said. "We have a done a good job of being consistent and finishing high, but Chris has done a little bit better job.”
Decker is also running in the super sprint division, where she is sixth in the standings, 490 points behind
Burns.
