State Fair Speedway has scheduled Fan Appreciation Night for this evening's dirt car races. Parents of young race fans will certainly feel the appreciation.

Anyone age 15 and under will get in free with a paid adult. The speedway will have games, face paintings, coloring contests and other activities in the grandstand area before the races. Gates open at 5 p.m. Races begin at 7:30.

Bixby resident wins at Knoxville: Bixby's Shane Stewart triumphed in one of the most prestigious sprint car races of the year Saturday night at the 17th annual Knoxville Nationals in Iowa.

Stewart won the 25-lap feature that ended three days of racing, which included 160 drivers. The victory was worth $10,000.

Oklahoma City native Wayne Johnson finished less than a second behind Stewart for second place. Johnson raced around American Sprint Car Series points leader Gary Wright in the final turn.

Stewart and Wright traded the lead during the middle of the race before Stewart pulled away for good on lap 14.

Stewart started on the first row, and Johnson started on the ninth.

Darren Stewart failed to make the feature after encountering mechanical woes in pre-race hot laps.

Up and coming: By most accounts, the American Sprint Car Series tour for young drivers, known as the ASCS2, has been a big hit this summer. Broken Arrow driver Scott Sawyer has been one of the biggest stars.

Sawyer recently won his third ASCS2 feature at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa. Sawyer leads the ASCS2 600cc division.
