Randy Timms bought a spare
USA modified race car from fellow driver
Stanley Reed Jr. just to compete at State Fair Speedway. Friday night, Timms drove that car to his second division feature win of the season.
The car is one of five yellow modifieds Timms owns. The 37-year-old traveling racer from Wheatland said he finds he needs a separate car setup for the State Fair Speedway track.
"It is kind of weird,” Timms said. "This track is unlike any other track I have raced on in the entire country. The setup on the car I won with tonight would not even make the A feature at some of the other tracks I race at.”
While Timms has made 70 percent of the races in Oklahoma City this season, he is ranked second in points on the
USA Modified Southern Tour Series. The Series recently completed a swing with two races in Arkansas and two in Louisiana in a span of four days.
"We are going to keep to try to win the points on the southern series,” Timms said. "We consider the speedway here (Oklahoma City) as kind of a part-time job right now.”
Friday night, Timms certainly positioned himself for the win but had to give some credit to
Reed's bad luck.
Reed had a significant lead on the field when his car started smoking on lap 16. By lap 18,
Reed was in the pits, and Timms was cruising to a win.
"I really hate to win like that,” Timms said. "Stanley is a good friend of mine. I hated to see that happen to him.”
In the championship sprint feature,
Eddie Guinn of Choctaw won his first feature of the season, beating
Michelle Decker.
Mike Goodman of Tulsa won his second super sprint feature of the year, and
Lee Jennings ran second.
Dustin Buntin of Wheatland won the factory stock feature with
Justin Allen and
David Rhodes finishing second and third.
