Sooner Oath to become new tradition for athletes
Sunday night, almost 500 Oklahoma student-athletes will recite the Sooner Oath, a new pledge written by members of the student-athlete advisory council.

The idea for the Sooner Oath came a year ago from athletic director Joe Castiglione, who asked then-advisory council president Brittney Koncak-Schumann, a former gymnast, and the rest of the council to write a pledge that would remind students of their responsibilities as Sooner athletes.

Jaclyn Stelzer, who plays on the women's golf team and serves as the advisory council president, will lead the students through the oath in a ceremony at the Carl B. Anderson All-American Plaza, just east of the Switzer Center.

OU president David Boren and former Sooner football coach Barry Switzer are scheduled to speak at the event, which will begin at 6 p.m.

University officials said the reciting of the Sooner Oath will become an annual event.

Texas receiver Sweed out three weeks: Limas Sweed, the Longhorns preseason All-American receiver, sprained his left wrist during a scrimmage Wednesday morning.

The Dallas Morning News reported Sweed will be out at least three weeks and will miss Texas' opener against Arkansas State on Sept. 1.

The 6-foot-5, 219-pound senior earned first-team All-Big 12 honors last year after catching 46 passes for 801 yards and 12 touchdowns.

QBs still sharing snaps: Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said nothing has changed in the three-way quarterback battle after Wednesday night's scrimmage.

Sam Bradford, Keith Nichol and Joey Halzle will still share equal snaps in practice and in Saturday's open scrimmage, Wilson said.

"They're all doing good,” Wilson said. "Right now, we have three quarterbacks. They're playing pretty good, so we're going to let them keep playing.”
