Return to the gridiron with "NCAA Football 2008,” the new college football simulation from EA Sports.

EA has made strides in its presentation for the Xbox 360, revamping recruiting and adding several more options.

The play calling has been updated, the graphics have been improved, and several new features have been added.

The "Campus Legend” mode, in which the gamer chooses one player and sticks with him through his career, has been updated and expanded.

The new super-simulation mode allows gamers to simulate parts of a game — if the gamer wants to play only offense, or only fourth quarters, that is now a possibility.

Gamers can save screenshots and replays of exceptional plays, and even upload them to Xbox Live for other gamers to see.

There are a handful of bugs — in one game, after a penalty was called on the last play, multiple plays were called with no time on the clock.

A new edition to the game is The Weather Channel feed function. This means for real-time games, if you want to play a game in Norman and it's raining, it'll be raining in the game, as well.

Overall, the Xbox 360 version of "NCAA 08” is a large improvement over last year's, and one of the deepest college football games ever created.

OU fans may be somewhat annoyed with the cover athlete, Boise State's Jared Zabransky, who engineered the upset of the Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl. This is somewhat mitigated by the EA commercial featuring Adrian Peterson talking about the Fiesta Bowl. (The commercial is viewable on YouTube by searching "Adrian Peterson NCAA 08.”)

"Everyone wanted David to take down Goliath,” Peterson said in the commercial. "But me, I am Goliath.”

As he said this, an Oklahoma player onscreen stops Boise State short of the end zone as the crowd chants "Boomer Sooner!”

In addition to the Xbox 360, the game is available on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. A wireless version for cell phones is also available.
