A former Milfay school superintendent and his schoolteacher wife have most likely left the country to avoid charges of obtaining drugs by fraud, an Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs spokesman said Monday.

Jerry V. Buckner, 44, and his wife, Robyn Toni, 41, were each charged in Creek County District Court in Sapulpa with obtaining or attempting to obtain controlled substances by forgery and fraud. Since charges were filed in May, the couple have not been seen, said Mark Woodward, Narcotics bureau spokesman.

"As far as we know they are not in the area and warrants have been issued for their arrests,” Woodward said.

The Bruckners are no longer employed at the school, which is about 6 miles east of Stroud, school officials said. Milfay has 78 students in pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade.

Jerry Buckner was investigated for possible drug fraud in 2001, Woodward said. In exchange for not filing charges, Buckner agreed to check into a treatment center, but only stayed three weeks, Woodward said.

The agency's computer tracking system determined the couple went to 25 doctors and 30 pharmacies in eight counties to purchase thousands of hydrocodone pain pills, Woodward said.

The prescription monitoring program allows doctors, pharmacists and law enforcement officers to gain information on the types and quantities of medication a patient is receiving, along with where they are buying it.

Question: If students are currently involved in a drug testing program within their school, why isn't everyone else-right down to the janitor-held accountable for drugs?....?
